George “Junior” William Hurt II, 60, returned to his heavenly home on March 22, 2016 after a six-month battle with pancreatic cancer. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and in the end ultimately gave him peace.
Born to the late George Russell Hurt and Queenie Ellen Hurt in Indianapolis, IN on March 4, 1956. George was a graduate of John Marshall High School. He was always a hard worker, and spent nearly twenty years at Jenn-Air, before the company moved its operations out of Indianapolis. Shortly thereafter, he began his career as a truck driver. Due to health concerns, he retired in October 2015.
In November 1985, he married DeLoncie Quarles. They were married for 28 years and together, they raised three children Keyla, George and Donovan. He will be dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace and resting with God.
George’s love for his family, and serving God was abundant. He was a lifelong member of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. As a child he was on the usher board, involved in the Starlight Band, children’s choir and Baptist Training Union. Later, as an adult he served as a Cub Master for Pack 199, Church Bus Driver, Food Pantry volunteer and was a Deacon. He was very active in the Brotherhood. The church’s transportation ministry was one very near and dear to his heart. He had a servant’s heart, and genuinely felt best when he was doing for others.
He was funny, he was witty, he was a giver, he was a dad. He was a son, he was a grandfather, he was a big brother, a little brother, a nephew, a cousin, a uncle, a friend, a deacon. George was many things to many people, what he cherished were those relationships. If you were his friend, you knew it. He was loyal. He was dependable. He made it a point to be there when you need him. He will be missed, but he wouldn’t want us to grieve. He had a natural sense of humor, he would want the memory of his laughter to carry us through this trying time.
George is survived by his three children, daughter; Keyla (John) Jones, sons; George (Natsha) Hurt and Donovan Hurt, mother; Queenie E. Hurt, brother; Stanley (Alice) Hurt, sisters; Mary (Sam) Smith and Sharon (Robert) Hobson, a host of aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends, grandchildren; Amour Hurt, Anna Jones, Isaac Hurt, Devon Jones, Sydney Hurt and Skylar Hurt. He is preceded in death by his father; George R. Hurt and sister; Lillie Mae Byrd.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 28, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, 1535 Dr. Andrew J. Brown Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46202 and burial to follow immediately after service at Washington Park North Cemetery.

David B. says
Death is something we never get use to, but Jehovah God gave us something to help us cope, he provided the Bible to let us know what his will is , and it is to live forever in peace according to Revelation 21: 3and 4 , which states that he will wipe out all tears from our eyes, no more pain, no more dying, so the best is yet to come after death. Thanks to God we have this promise from Jehovah God.
